GLOBAL CHALLENGE, NATIONS ON TAP

Rob Harrington

August 5, 2011

This weekend marks the first in a month when there are no tournaments or camps with college coaches in attendance, but Nike’s Global Challenge is being staged in Oregon — near the company’s world headquarters in the Portland area — and features 30 of the nation’s best prospects along with a talented group of non-Americans as well.

Beginning on Friday and extending through Sunday, the Americans are split into East, West and Midwest teams, while other countries represented include Canada, German, Puerto Rico, Chinese Taipei and Brazil.

Some of the players expected to compete are Nerlens Noel, Ricardo Ledo, Rasheed Sulaimon, Brandon Ashley, Julius Randle, Archie Goodwin and Jabari Parker, all who are likely McDonald’s All-Americans (mostly in the 2012 class, but some are 2013 prospects) along with perhaps others in attendance as well.

Meanwhile, Adidas is holding one of its popular Nations events in Los Angeles. Held Friday-Sunday as well at the HAX athletic club and Cal-State Dominguez Hills, Nations also will feature premier talent. Players are divided into American teams as well international squads, and players scheduled to attend include:

Shabazz Muhammad, Andre Drummond, Isaiah Austin, Kyle Anderson, Dejuan Coleman and Cameron Ridley.
