HUSKIES GET ANOTHER BIG TIMERRob Harrington
For the second time in a week, UConn landed a blue-chip prospect. The Huskies moving fully away from the Class of 2011 and to the Class of 2012, picked up rising senior guard Omar Calhoun. A New York native, UConn beat out Big East rival Pittsburgh, West Virginia and many others for the talented scorer’s services. Calhoun saw the success of fellow New Yorker Kemba Walker and the Huskies’ national title this past season, and obviously UConn is setting up to have a potential monster team in 2012-13. Calhoun arguably is the finest three-point shooter in the class and has been a tear on the Nike circuit this spring and summer. He also nearly has a college-ready body and should be able to contribute early. Between the young players on the roster now and the pursuit of elite center Andre Drummond, among others, UConn hopes to send Jim Calhoun out with a bang. |
