PAIGE COMMITS TO UNC; WHAT NEXT?

Rob Harrington

January 10, 2011

The crop of point guards in the Class of 2012 has been criticized in every conceivable way over the past year, and to this point there appears to be a lack of a genuinely elite floor general. For that reason college programs are being especially aggressive with offers, because the few guys who are established blue-chippers (again, if not elite) are likely to fly off the board.

The above preamble illustrates the importance of IA PG Marcus Paige committing to North Carolina this past weekend. The 6-1 floor general isn’t a dynamic athlete or scorer but has shown a more complete game than some of the other guards in the class and, upon getting stronger, should prove to be a fine ACC-level performer.

UNC also had offered TX PG L.J. Rose and was very high on his list, but Paige decided to go ahead and commit. In addition to the in-state major programs Iowa and Iowa State, Illinois and others also were stung by Paige’s pledge.
