JORDAN GAME ROSTERS ANNOUNCEDRob Harrington
While the McDonald’s All-American team was announced late last week, the second-most important all-star game rosters were announced on Tuesday. The Jordan Brand Classic, to be played on April 16 in Charlotte, N.C., where the event’s namesake is an executive with the Charlotte Bobcats, will feature the best seniors from the Nike travel circuit. The nation’s top senior prospect, Anthony Davis, will be in attendance, as will his future Kentucky teammate Michael Gilchrist, the second-best senior prospect. In fact, 11 out of PrepStars.com’s top 12 seniors will be in attendance, although one of the 11, Quincy Miller, won’t play due to injury. In terms of pure talent, the Nike-backed game closely approximates that of the more legendary McDonald’s contest. One difference is that for completely non-Nike players, such as Texas forward LeBryan Nash, who will be at McDonald’s but not in Charlotte. Of course, all recruitniks understand full well what these all-star games are about: individual (i.e., selfish) play, disorganization and frequent chaos. Accordingly, they tend to be poor tools for evaluating talent. Nevertheless, they do offer fans a chance at least to see what the next crop of freshmen look like and get a preliminary feel for their styles of play. |
