DANIELS PULLS TRIGGER FOR HUSKIES

Rob Harrington

June 8, 2011

The wild ride that was the DeAndre Daniels saga has ended. The blue-chip 2011 forward vacillated between multiple schools throughout a protracted recruitment and narrowed his list before expanding it again, and ultimately he committed to national champion UConn without taking a campus visit.

At one time each of Texas, Kansas, Duke and Kentucky was considered the frontrunner, and previously the Longhorns held his commitment. But in the end, it was the opportunity to step right in and compete for heavy early playing time. He may have been able to do that elsewhere, too, of course, but we’ve witnessed situation after situation over the years when a national titlist is able to win out for a top player despite challenging circumstances.

Daniels finished his prep career ranked No. 16 in the Class of 2011.
