BIG EARLY WEEK DECISIONSRob Harrington
Just a couple weeks from signing day, big commitments continue to flow. Kentucky landed its second big-timer of the year, getting the nod from KS C Willie Cauley, disappointing Kansas State tremendously in the process. An extremely athletic big man who actually has played football for kicks this fall and put up huge stats as a wide receiver, Cauley is a terror in the open floor. He needs to get stronger and to refine his offensive game, but his long-term potential is immense. Another point to consider is that Kentucky, which has made a name for itself with one-and-done recruits, is likely to enjoy Cauley’s services for at least two seasons and perhaps even three. He joins AR WG Archie Goodwin in UK’s class. ALLEN CHOOSES CARDINALStanford landed a critical target as well, getting a commitment from NV BF/WF Rosco Allen. The Las Vegas native picked the Cardinal over hometown UNLV and many others, and his versatility is likely to pay off early in Palo Alto. Like Cauley, Allen needs to become stronger and more comfortable etching out an offensive identity. That said, he already boasts impressive handling, passing and shooting skills. DUCKS GET TOP POINT GUARDStaying in the West, Oregon picked up former UCLA pledge Dominic Artis. The small-but-quick floor general is a good scorer and had a big summer with the Oakland Soldiers. He’s a talented jump shooter and an impressive playmaker as well, and he should factor very prominently into the Ducks’ plans. |
