KNIGHT: A STRONG NO. 2, POSSIBLE NO. 1?Rob Harrington
This isn’t an event report, but No. 2 senior Brandon Knight has been backing up the hype this season. And although there’s been absolutely no reason to believe that No. 1 Harrison Barnes will fall from his perch, Knight certainly deserves credit for the fabulous senior season he’s enjoying as well. The native Floridian will be remembered as one of the most decorated high school players in Sunshine State history, this month surpassing the 3,000-point mark in his career. He also drilled a buzzer-beater three to lead his team to a victory at the Flyin’ To The Hoop event last week, and he scored 49 points on Wednesday night — his sixth consecutive game with at least 30 points. Knight’s recruitment obviously is becoming more and more of a national story, as he continues to consider Miami, UConn, Kentucky, Florida, Syracuse and Kansas and, because he has been tight-lipped, has fueled a great deal of wild speculation about his ultimate college choice. Knight will play against Winter Park and touted junior guard Austin Rivers — his former Each One Teach One teammate — on ESPN on February 5. |
