PINKSTON TO ‘NOVAPrepStars.com staff
Villanova added a commitment from talented NY/VA BF Jayvaughn Pinkston, an aggressive, big-bodied scorer who has been a national name since his freshman season at Bishop Loughlin. After also spending time at Oak Hill, Pinkston has proved to be reliable force at all points along the Eastern Seaboard. Though small for the post at 6-6, in truth Pinkston has a game more similar to that of former Iowa State star Marcus Fizer. He doesn’t handle like a wing against pressure, yet he’s easily able to use his powerful shoulders and good quickness to beat opposing frontcourt opponents off the dribble and finishes pretty well around the basket. He’s a capable open jump shooter as well, and he’ll be a pest of an offensive rebounder. His recruitment was expected to result in a commitment to Tennessee, but he backed off a scheduled announcement when it appeared that the Vols would get a pledge from NY BF Tobias Harris (which they did). |
